Come Ye Sinners to the Table

February 24, 2008

. Bring your hungering and your thirsting Without money to the feasting. O ye sinners who are hungry, There’s a table spread for you! . Bring your longings and your lustings To the One Who satisfies. Come ye sinners who are empty, And find fullness in His presence. . All your searching now is over; For in seeking you shall find He Who is the King of mercy Gives salvation full and free. . Let us offer Him our service. Let us freely give our lives. For the One Who paid our wages, There can be no sacrifice. . Christ brings fullest satisfaction; Come and taste that He is good. Want no more vain, earthly treasures; Come taste freely of His food. .     Photo courtesy allposters.com Poetry © Keren, 2007-08, based on the text of Isaiah 55   .

  • Heading home from our trip to the monarch sanctuary and Michoacán, we visited some Otomi ruins. Our crazy four-year-old wasn’t excited about our visit at first, but then proceeded to climb this pyramid three times in a row! We’ve visited a lot of Mexican pyramids and Mesoamerican ruins, but there are still so many more to explore!

  • After our butterfly tour, we stopped for a quick bite to eat at a restaurant, aptly called “El Mirador.” (“The view,” or “lookout,” in English) From this point, we could see a lot of the city of Zitacuaro.

  • We made it to our intended destination: the monarch butterfly sanctuary! Photos can’t do it justice (and this wasn’t even posed 😂), especially since we were riding horseback for most of our trip. This year is a banner year for the monarch butterflies in Mexico, so I wanted to make sure we were able to visit while we are within driving distance. It did not disappoint, and our kids did really well, making it a wonderful experience all around...well, minus the fact that my body is *not* used to riding a horse, especially up and down a mountain! I also think it’s amazing that these butterflies have traveled further than some people have in their lifetimes!

  • Andes mountains or Mexico? We’re spending a short time on a farm stay in Michoacán, Mexico, with hopes to all see the monarch butterfly migration here. I love all the little details you can see when you zoom into this photo: the kids playing with a dog, the red tile roof, the butterfly decor on the house, and the tall noche buena trees adding a bit of flaming red.

  • Beautiful agave fields just out of Guadalajara, in Jalisco, Mexico. Fun fact: Mexican law only permits five Mexican states to produce tequila. (Though, maybe not so fun if you’re not one of those states? 🤷‍♀️😜) Home to Tequila, Jalisco is unsurprisingly the primary producer of these states. That said, there are countless other varieties of agave that cannot be used for tequila, and the agave’s other uses are nearly just as endless.

  • It’s just under a 5-hour drive from San Juan Cosalá to San Miguel de Allende, one of my favorite places in Mexico. Although I’d been battling a stomach bug all week, I was able to make it for a meeting I’d had scheduled for over a month. Sheer exhaustion and health issues kept me from fully exploring to the extent I desired, but I’m thankful for 24-hours well spent in the beautiful city. (And also my longest solo drive in Mexico so far. I was a little nervous at first, but it went well.) ______________
