You can help “hamburger” meat stick together (particularly in less greasy meats such as venison) by adding in a little oatmeal to the meat. I also kneaded in some sliced and diced onions, along with some seasonings, and it added some great flavor when the burger was cooked. I used ~ 1/2 cup oatmeal to 1 lb. ground meat. We were really excited to be able to use some lettuce fresh from our garden to make it one delicious burger! Visit Tammy’s Recipes for Kitchen Tip Tuesday! .

Pizza cut into strips and served over salad greens is a fun and creative way to healthily “extend” the life of just a couple of leftover pizza pieces. Feta cheese, of course, is always a welcome addition. For great kitchen tips, visit Tammy’s Recipes. .

Now that we’ve been making challah on a weekly basis, I’ve realized that we use a bit more honey than in the past. And honey can get quite expensive! If you’re not too particular about your baking honey, you may want to check your dollar store! Several of our local dollar stores (where it is actually just $1) carry 12 oz. bottles of honey for just $1. And for all you CVS-ers out there with extra ECB’s, CVS carries honey in the $1 section. (Just make sure that you are actually getting it from the $1 section, as they also carry honey in their regular food section. By the way, the CVS dollar section honey, is actually a blend of corn syrup and honey. ) This is a great money saver for our challah! π For more great Kitchen Tips, visit Tammy’s Recipes!.

Here’s a fun variation to the normal pancake flipping–bake them! It’s great if you want to cut down on preparation time or want to serve them all fresh out of the oven. It makes a great Sunday morning breakfast. (Or just any time…like this morning! π ) Just mix up batter for 8-10 pancakes (using a mix or homemade batter), pour into a casserole dish (pictured with a 2 quart dish), and bake at 425 degrees for 15 to 20 minutes. And, oila, you have “pancake casserole!” The time and temperature may vary a bit, but this is what I experimented with, and what worked for me. We love berries in our pancakes, and we like them thick with grains–so that’s what I did here, too. .

I like to think of this as Facebook for the Amish.Β But it takes 10 days before you can add more friends. Friendship Bread is made from a starter, and by the time you make the bread 10 days later, you have 3 bread starters to pass along to friends. I was given a starter a few weeks ago, and we had fun making and eating the bread. Be warned, though, it’s very sweet! Supposedly, only the Amish know the recipe for the starter. However, one of them must have posted it here, because this is the starter recipe that goes along with the exact bread recipe that I have. I’m also wondering if they really use instant pudding mix. π Here’s the bread recipe, after you have the starter:
